Eligibility and Criteria
Welcome to Kalianna School, where we provide specialised education for students with an intellectual disability diagnosis and a Full Scale IQ within the range of 50-70. We are delighted to accept enrolments from families seeking a supportive and inclusive learning environment for their children.
ENROLMENT CRITERIA

The following enrolment criteria have been specified and approved by the Regional Director, North West Victoria Region (as the Minister’s delegate) under section 2.2.16(b) of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). A student’s enrolment will be reviewed periodically in line with their needs.
Students seeking to enrol must have:
Intellectual Disability
A diagnosis of Intellectual Disability from a registered psychologist evidenced by:
Sub-average general intellectual functioning which is demonstrated by a full-scale score of two standard deviations or more below the mean score on a standardised individual test of general intelligence, (for example a full scale score of 70 or below on one of the recommended standardised individual tests of intelligence);
and
Significant deficits in adaptive behaviour established by a composite score of two standard deviations or more below the mean on an approved standardised test of adaptive behaviour,(for example a Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales composite score of 70 or below);
and
A history and evidence of an ongoing problem with an expectation of continuation during the school years.
Please see our ‘school council – policies and protocols’ tab for more information regarding enrolment eligibility requirements - Enrolment Policy
If you are considering enrolment for your child in our Prep program, we recommend speaking with your child's kindergarten teacher to seek their opinion on whether your child may have an actual intellectual disability, rather than another diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Additionally, evidence of engagement with early intervention and allied health services will be required.

For students transferring from the Catholic or private education system, a current cognitive assessment and special school verification process will be necessary before enrolment can proceed. Please contact our Assistant Principal, Lara Pearce, for more information.

At Kalianna School, we recognise that every student's needs are unique, and we are committed to providing a tailored education plan for each student. All enrolled students will require a Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP) to be completed to secure funding for their education. This funding enables the school to make any necessary adjustments to ensure each student receives the best possible education.

All students at Kalianna will undergo regular reviews to ensure that they continue to meet eligibility requirements. If a student commences enrolment in Prep, this review may not be required until their Year 6/7 review, or if they are short-term funded, it will be conducted when their current funding ceases. Our school will arrange for a new cognitive assessment to be completed as part of the review process.

We are dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing learning environment for all of our students at Kalianna School. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our community.
